What is W3C Compliance ?

W3C stands for The World Wide Web Consortium. They are an international consortium made up of many members all over the world and their aim is to build a set of standards that that will help websites make the most of the internet. Their mission statement is "To lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web" .

Why W3C Compliance ?

The biggest question most people ask is why should I make my site W3C compliant?. The are lots of very GOOD reasons why some of the important ones are

  • Standards are Good for any type of computer coding
  • It makes it easier for Search Engines to extract information from your site
  • It Should help your site to look the same in all Web Browsers
  • Your website has a better chance of being displayed correctly on a wide ranges of devices.

Why employ a company to make my site compliant?

Making your site W3C Compliant, is in relative terms a straight forward exercise. Depending on how your site has been written will determine how long the process will take. Like most small and medium size enterprises you need to work out how long it will take you to do it your self. On average we normally allow approximately 1 hour for a standard page.If you are not used to coding standards it may well take you longer.

Midlands Production Ltd can help in one of two ways , the first being we can do the work for you or secondly we can tell you how to fix the coding errors on your site.

If you use a "Site Builder" package provided to you from your ISP , we will probably not be able to make your current site W3C Compliant, as these rewrite the pages each time you edit them , so all the chnages get removed each time. We can however help by providing hosting and advice on ways in which you can maintaine your sites W3C complianec.
